Bartender — Lux Asian Restaurant & Bar
Location: Waukee, IA
Reports to: GM / AGM
Pay: $8.25/hr + tips
Employment: Full-time and part-time available
About the Role
We're opening a modern Asian restaurant and bar in Waukee and hiring bartenders who can build a craft cocktail to spec, pour a clean beer and wine list, and run a high-energy bar without losing hospitality. You'll execute our signature cocktail menu, serve bar guests directly, and be a key personality in the room.
Responsibilities
- Execute the signature cocktail list to spec with consistent builds, accurate pours, and proper technique
- Pour and present beer and wine; speak to the list with confidence
- Serve and engage bar guests directly; manage your own bar-top section
- Take and prepare drink orders for the service floor (well/service bar) at speed
- Maintain pour costs and portion accuracy; follow recipes and specs
- Prep garnishes, batches, syrups, and mise before service; break down and restock after
- Card guests and refuse service responsibly; uphold all alcohol-service laws
- Keep the bar clean, stocked, and organized throughout service
- Handle cash and card transactions, tabs, and checkouts accurately
- Communicate clearly with servers, barbacks, and the kitchen
Requirements
- 21+ Years of Age
- 1+ year bartending experience in a full-service or high-volume bar
- Working knowledge of classic cocktails and ability to learn a signature list fast
- Speed and accuracy under volume without dropping hospitality
- Basic beer and wine knowledge
- Can stand for 8+ hour shifts and lift 50 lbs (kegs, cases)
- Available nights, weekends, and holidays
- Iowa alcohol server training (TIPS or equivalent) within 30 days of hire
Nice-to-Haves
- Craft cocktail program experience
- Familiarity with Asian spirits such as sake, shochu, soju, Japanese whisky, baijiu
- Experience building batches, syrups, and house ingredients
- Opening-team experience
- POS fluency (Union, Toast, Square, Aloha)
- Beer/wine certification (Cicerone, WSET) a plus, not required
