About Addmaster
Addmaster Corporation designs and manufactures innovative specialty printing systems used in healthcare, banking, industrial, and OEM applications. Our products combine precision mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded software, and thermal inkjet technology to solve challenging real-world problems.
This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on the development of an actual commercial product—not classroom exercises or isolated assignments. As an intern, you'll contribute to a project that is expected to move from concept to prototype during your internship.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering student who enjoys designing, building, and solving mechanical problems.
As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, you will work directly with our engineering team to help develop a next-generation thermal inkjet printer mechanism. Your primary assignment will be assisting in the design and prototyping of a precision service station used to maintain thermal inkjet printheads.
You'll receive guidance from experienced engineers while taking ownership of real engineering tasks that contribute directly to product development.
What You'll Do
During your internship, you may:
- Create and modify 3D mechanical models using PTC Creo (Pro/ENGINEER).
- Assist in designing precision mechanical components and assemblies.
- Help transform engineering concepts into manufacturable designs.
- Build and assemble prototypes using our in-house 3D printers.
- Participate in prototype testing and design evaluations.
- Source standard mechanical components such as bearings, springs, fasteners, gears, and sensors.
- Create engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Participate in engineering design reviews.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who is:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Familiar with CAD software. Experience with PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) is preferred.
- Interested in mechanical product development and prototype design.
- Comfortable working with hand tools and building physical prototypes.
- Curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
- Able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Bonus Skills
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- 3D printing
- Machine shop experience
- Robotics
- Product design
- Automation equipment
- Precision mechanisms
- Manufacturing processes
- Electromechanical assemblies
- Thermal inkjet or printer technology
What You'll Learn
This internship provides hands-on experience in:
- Mechanical product development
- CAD modeling using PTC Creo
- Prototype fabrication
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Precision mechanism design
- Engineering documentation
- Component sourcing
- Cross-functional product development
- Working in a fast-paced engineering environment
Why Join Addmaster?
Unlike many internships, you'll work on products that are destined for commercial production. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, build working prototypes, participate in design decisions, and gain valuable experience that prepares you for a career in product development.
If you're passionate about designing real products, enjoy building things, and want to see your ideas come to life, we'd love to hear from you.
