This is a part-time position that requires availability between the hours of 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. between Monday through Friday during the school year. Scheduling is flexible, but is capped at 12 hours per week. This position would be exclusive to the Afterschool Program, and would not work during breaks (Summer, Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Academic Success Professional is responsible for providing personalized academic support and tutoring to youth in grades K–12 across our three club locations in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere. This role supports students in understanding new concepts, completing assignments, and strengthening academic skills to improve overall performance and achievement. The Academic Success Professional designs and facilitates supplementary learning activities, responds to students’ academic questions within specific subject areas, and provides direct instructional support in individual and small-group settings. The Academic Success Professional also supervises the assigned program area and youth to ensure a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
KEY ROLES:
Prepare Youth for Success
- Support the academic growth, development, and progress of youth through individualized and small-group academic support/tutoring.
- Demonstrate proficiency in assigned academic subject areas and utilize developmentally appropriate instructional strategies.
- Assist youth with homework, special projects, and enrichment activities that reinforce school-day learning.
- Foster a growth mindset by encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Promote positive learning behaviors and habits that support academic success.
Program Development and Implementation
- Support the planning and implementation of academic support activities aligned with Club programming.
- Ensure implementation of the 5 Key Elements for Positive Youth Development during all academic support sessions.
- Implement the established program schedule at the assigned site and maintain structured learning environments.
- Supervise youth and program areas to ensure safety, engagement, and appropriate behavior.
Collaborative Support & Administrative Functions
- Collaborate with program staff and Club leadership to identify academic needs and coordinate appropriate supports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of academic support plans for youth requiring additional assistance.
- Track attendance and participation during academic support sessions.
- Monitor youth progress and communicate relevant updates or concerns to the Club Director.
- Maintain accurate documentation as required by program or organizational guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- May participate in special programs and/or events
- May be required to drive Club van
- Complete trainings as required
- May be required to help out in multiple areas as needed
- Clean area as needed at the end of day
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
Skills/Knowledge Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or in related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- Two years of current or previous work with children, teaching experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
- Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (training will be provided).
- Preferred: Experience with Renaissance LMS Star Reading & Accelerated Reader
