About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate ESL (English as a Second Language) Instructor to teach English to Japanese high school students in a face-to-face, in-person classroom setting. This is not a remote or online position — all lessons will be conducted on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, effective English lessons to high school-aged students in an in-person classroom
- Design custom curricula based on specific goals and themes provided by the school/organization
- Select and prepare appropriate teaching materials and resources to support each lesson's objectives
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods and materials accordingly
- Create a supportive, encouraging, and interactive learning environment
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and (as needed) parents regarding student progress
- Maintain lesson plans, attendance records, and other administrative documentation as required
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and curriculum planning discussions as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required (in Education, English, Linguistics, or related field preferred)
- TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification preferred
- Prior experience teaching ESL, particularly to teenage or high school-aged students, preferred
- Proven ability to independently design curriculum around specified goals and themes
- Strong skills in selecting and adapting teaching materials to fit lesson objectives and student needs
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Native or near-native English proficiency
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
- Must be available to teach in person in San Diego.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
