Gate Access Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Gate Access Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial gate operators, access control systems, telephone entry systems, and related security equipment. The ideal candidate has experience working with automated gates, low-voltage systems, access controls, and customer-facing service work. This position requires strong technical abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair commercial and industrial automated gate systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage issues related to gate operators and access control equipment.
- Install and configure access control devices including card readers, keypads, intercoms, telephone entry systems, vehicle detection loops, and gate operators.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and recommend necessary repairs or upgrades.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and installation drawings.
- Program and troubleshoot access control systems and gate operating software.
- Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications, safety standards, and local codes.
- Test systems after installation and repairs to verify proper operation.
- Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding system operation, repair recommendations, and project status.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, inventory, and equipment.
- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency service calls as required.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience servicing automated gates, access control systems, low-voltage systems, or related equipment.
- Knowledge of gate operators, access control hardware, intercom systems, and low-voltage wiring.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and communication issues.
- Experience with manufacturers such as DoorKing, LiftMaster, FAAC, HySecurity, Linear, Viking, Nice, Apollo, or similar products preferred.
- Understanding of access control systems and networking fundamentals preferred.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Low-voltage certification or access control certifications.
- Experience with cloud-based access control platforms.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- AFAA, ESA, or industry-related certifications.
- Experience operating lifts and working in commercial construction environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working around moving equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
