Fiber Installation Technician — Independent Contractor
Location: Central Mississippi
Employment Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Work Area: Central Mississippi and surrounding service areas
Position Overview
We are looking for experienced, dependable Fiber Installation Technicians to perform residential and/or commercial fiber optic installations throughout Central Mississippi.
The ideal contractor is comfortable working independently, has strong troubleshooting skills, takes pride in quality workmanship, and can safely complete installations while maintaining professional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cable and equipment.
- Perform fiber drops, routing, splicing, connectorization, and equipment installation as required.
- Install ONTs, modems, routers, and other customer-premises equipment.
- Run fiber through attics, crawl spaces, walls, conduit, and exterior pathways when required.
- Perform basic fiber testing and troubleshooting using appropriate test equipment.
- Identify and correct signal, connectivity, and installation issues.
- Maintain clean, professional workmanship at each job site.
- Communicate professionally with customers and explain basic equipment and service operation.
- Follow company, customer, and utility safety requirements.
- Complete job documentation, photos, test results, and other required paperwork accurately.
- Maintain reliable communication and arrive at scheduled appointments on time.
- Safely operate ladders, hand tools, power tools, and other installation equipment.
Qualifications
- Previous fiber optic installation experience preferred.
- Experience with FTTH/FTTP installations strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable, connectors, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass any required background or credentialing requirements.
- Ability to work outdoors and in attics, crawl spaces, and other physically demanding environments.
- Ability to lift equipment and materials and safely climb ladders.
- Professional appearance and strong customer-service skills.
- Must have a strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Contractor Requirements
Contractors should provide their own basic hand tools and transportation. Additional equipment, materials, or specialized tools may be provided or required depending on the project.
Contractors are responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance, licenses, and documentation required for their work, unless otherwise specified in the contractor agreement.
Compensation
Competitive per-job / production-based compensation, depending on installation type, scope of work, and experience.
