We provide a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while promoting economic development and preserving the environment of New Mexico, located in Milan New Mexico with District 6.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Why does the job exist?
This position assists with District Six's Safety and Loss Control programs to ensure the safety of employees and the traveling public and ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Federal, State and New Mexico Department of Transportation directives to keep in compliance of laws.
How does it get done?
Performs facility and worksite inspections. Conducts hazard assessment and job safety analysis. Conducts First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving and any other Risk Management related training (to include Safety Meetings) for NMDOT staff. Responds to safety and security related incidents for the District. Assist in updating all Risk Management databases. Assist injured employees with their Worker's Comp cases to submit the proper forms. Conduct investigations and write reports relating to vehicle incidents.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a risk management or a safety-related field (e.g., loss control, safety, and Worker¿s Compensation case management activities and workplace inspections). Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's license verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must become a certified instructor with the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course and First Aid/CPR.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting and outdoors. Office work includes; working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers. Subject to call-out for accidents and/or emergencies on short notice.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside work in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high speed/high volume traffic, loud noises, and stressful situations. Interaction with the public, local, county, and city officials by phone or in person.
Occasional travel with possible overnight stays away from post of duty. May be required to work irregular hours.
