This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to build the Company's accounting and financial infrastructure from the ground up. The selected candidate will play a strategic role in creating the systems, controls, and reporting processes that will support the Company's long-term growth and success.
Accounting Systems Development & Financial Infrastructure
A key responsibility of this position is to design, implement, and manage the Company's accounting and financial management infrastructure. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate current processes, recommend best practices, and establish scalable accounting systems that will support the Company's continued growth.
Start-up Responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and maintain the Company's complete accounting and bookkeeping system.
- Select, configure, and optimize accounting software and related financial applications appropriate for the business.
- Develop and document the Company's chart of accounts, accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Establish workflows for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, expense management, fixed assets, and general ledger accounting.
- Create efficient month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and financial reporting schedules.
- Build historical financial records from prior years' data to create accurate financial statements and establish a reliable accounting foundation.
- Develop budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial planning processes.
- Create management reporting dashboards and monthly financial packages for executive leadership.
- Establish systems and documentation to support outside accountants, tax professionals, lenders, investors, and future financial audits.
- Ensure all accounting systems remain compliant with federal, state, and local tax regulations, licensing requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ongoing Responsibilities
- Manage and perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify account balances align with bank statements and internal records.
- Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Utilize various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, and other financial tools to record transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare detailed financial reports including financial statements, budget reports, and other documentation to support management decision-making.
- Assist with payroll processing, tax preparation, and compliance activities related to governmental accounting standards (GAAP).
- Support bookkeeping functions through double-entry bookkeeping methods, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and supporting audit readiness.
- Perform bank deposits, check processing, and manage 10-key typing tasks for efficient data entry.
- Collaborate on budgeting activities and provide account analysis to identify discrepancies or areas for improvement.
- Ensure adherence to technical accounting standards and best practices while supporting special projects related to governmental or non-profit accounting environments.
Experience
- Proven experience in public accounting or corporate accounting roles with a strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken or similar platforms.
- Hands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliation, journal entries, account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and general ledger accounting.
- Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles along with debits & credits management.
- Familiarity with payroll processing, tax experience related to different organizational types (corporate or non-profit), and governmental accounting standards is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret financial concepts clearly while writing comprehensive financial reports.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills including 10-key typing accuracy for data entry tasks.
- Experience supporting budgeting processes and performing account analysis in fast-paced environments is preferred.
