American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a cancer hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active ACLS and BLS certifications.

Mixed-acuity PCU and Med/Surg unit within a cancer hospital setting, with a heavy surgical oncology focus
-
Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses spanning surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary cancers, colorectal cancers, and reconstructive plastics

Procedures and treatments include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome management, insulin drips, and heparin drips

Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Goal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, but may reach 1:5 depending on unit needs

Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)

Day/night rotating scheduling is possible; shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs

Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs

Floating within scope of practice may be required

Epic EMR is used for charting

Active OH RN license or Compact RN license required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

2 professional references required for consideration: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as a 2nd reference; co-worker references are not accepted

Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemo certification is preferred

Orientation consists of the first week Mon–Fri on day shift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Self-scheduling requests are submitted by the traveler prior to the final schedule being posted

Candidates may request time off (RTO), but it must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 days or fewer for the contract

Former employees of this facility are eligible to apply after at least 6 months away

Local candidates are accepted

Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly after accepting a contract; candidates outside Ohio may need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or will be mailed a fingerprinting packet for urgent completion
