Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and energetic Outside Machinist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems on water transportation equipment. Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on marine mechanical systems, including engines, pumps, and propulsion units.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical manuals, and engineering drawings to diagnose issues accurately.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics on ship electrical systems using tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters to identify faults.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, and precision measuring instruments for fabrication and repair tasks.
- Execute rigging operations and assembly tasks for ship components while adhering to safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Maintain water transportation equipment by troubleshooting mechanical failures and performing necessary repairs efficiently.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, safety standards, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an outside machinist or marine mechanic with service technician background preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience in ship electrical systems maintenance.
- Ability to read schematics and technical diagrams accurately; familiarity with engineering troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience with rigging, fabrication, welding, soldering, sheet metal work, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of diesel mechanics, heavy lifting techniques, water transportation equipment maintenance, and marine systems repair.
- Familiarity with electrical diagnostics tools such as ohmmeters; ability to perform precise measurements using calipers and other instruments.
- Prior military experience or background in vehicle maintenance is a plus; demonstrates discipline and adaptability.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to perform physical tasks involving heavy lifting while maintaining safety standards; adherence to PPE protocols is essential.
