Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support in the care and treatment of animals, ensuring their health and well-being. You will work closely with veterinarians and pet owners, assisting in various clinical procedures and maintaining a safe and clean environment for both animals and staff.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Perform laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis, while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed or prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including anesthesia administration and monitoring.
- Monitor animal vital signs and behavior during procedures and recovery.
- Provide proper restraint for animals during examinations and treatments.
- Maintain accurate patient and medical records and documentation of treatments.
- Utilize X-ray equipment safely and effectively for diagnostic imaging.
- Implement aseptic techniques to prevent infection during procedures.
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care practices, including dental hygiene, nutrition, and training techniques.
- Assist in animal catheterization when necessary.
- Handle various species of animals, including dogs, cats, and equines, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Participate in dental cleanings and understand dental terminology related to veterinary care.
- Assist with grooming tasks as needed to maintain animal hygiene.
Skills
- Previous experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician or in a similar role is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and husbandry practices.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, procedures, and dental terminology related to veterinary medicine.
- Experience with laboratory procedures, equipment handling, and X-ray imaging.
- Ability to perform animal catheterization and understand laboratory processes.
- Strong skills in aseptic technique to ensure cleanliness during medical procedures.
- Experience in veterinary critical care or emergency situations is a plus.
- Proficiency in handling dogs and other animals safely and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members.
- Compassionate approach towards animal care with an emphasis on patient comfort.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and stay updated on veterinary practices.
