General Farm Laborer
Metz Potato Company is seeking applications for a full-time, year-round General Farm Laborer to join our farming operation in Monte Vista, Colorado. This position plays a vital role in all aspects of potato and grain production, including field preparation, planting, irrigation, equipment operation, harvesting, and general farm maintenance.
The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Previous experience on a potato or grain farm is preferred but not required for motivated applicants willing to learn.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of agricultural equipment, including tractors, combines, loaders, tillage equipment, and other farm machinery.
- Assist with all phases of crop production, including land preparation, planting, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting potatoes and grain.
- Monitor, maintain, and repair center pivot irrigation systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on farm equipment and machinery.
- Safely operate power tools, hand tools, and other equipment used in daily farm operations.
- Perform heavy lifting and physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Maintain clean, organized shop, equipment, and storage areas.
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and submit receipts and required documentation daily.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with other farm-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR) required.
- Previous potato or grain farming experience preferred.
- Basic mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and perform routine equipment maintenance.
- Experience operating agricultural equipment or other heavy machinery preferred.
- Knowledge of potato and barley growing practices is beneficial.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent lifting, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic math skills for measuring, calculating, and recording field information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must provide and maintain your own basic hand tools.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Wage: $17.00–$18.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Eligible for overtime pay.
