JOB DESCRIPTION

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Specialist – Academic supports the CTE Director in the leadership, management, and continuous improvement of district CTE programs. As a member of both the CTE leadership team and the Secondary Instructional Supports team, the specialist serves as an instructional leader responsible for developing evidence-based curriculum, instructional resources, and assessments that integrate effective digital teaching and learning practices while promoting equitable access and success for all students in CTE courses and programs.

The CTE Specialist collaborates with district departments, school administrators, educators, the Utah State Board of Education, institutions of higher education, business and industry partners, and community organizations to enhance program quality, expand student opportunities, and ensure alignment with state standards, workforce needs, and postsecondary pathways.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serve as a liaison among school administrators, educators, district leadership, and the Utah State Board of Education to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and alignment of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Support the articulation, alignment, and continuous improvement of CTE pathways between middle schools, high schools, postsecondary institutions, and workforce partners.
Attend and actively participate in district, departmental, administrative, state, and professional meetings as assigned.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of professional learning and staff development opportunities for educators and administrators.
Participate in the evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of CTE programs and initiatives.
Assist the CTE Director with the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and support of CTE personnel.
Collaborate with the CTE Director and the Utah State Board of Education to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and district regulations, policies, and reporting requirements.
Demonstrates a high standard of professional, legal, and ethical conduct (CTESS standard)
Design and select instructional resources, curriculum materials, and content area technology tools that support educators in delivering equitable, high-quality instruction based on Utah State Standards
Provide expertise, training, modeling, co-teaching, and support to teachers in implementing standards-based instruction, adopted curriculum, and assessment in assigned content areas and programs
Help support instructional coaches and educators to create effective curriculum and assessments that provide timely feedback and support personalized learning
Design professional learning based on needs assessments and frameworks for working with adults to support their learning needs
Build the capacity of educators, leaders, and instructional teams to put the system supports into practice by facilitating active learning and providing meaningful feedback
Evaluate the impact of professional learning and continually make improvements to meet the districtwide vision for high-impact teaching and learning
Assist educators and leaders in securely collecting and analyzing student data
Compile, synthesize, interpret, and display aggregate and disaggregate data sets to support district-level decision-making
Support educators to interpret implementation and performance data to inform their decisions and support individual student learning
Assist instructional coaches and teachers in designing content-specific scaffolds that support diverse learners in Tier 1 instruction and supplemental interventions
Collaborate with other district departments to ensure alignment of services to schools
Serve as a liaison between CSD, other local districts, universities, and the Utah State Board of Education, as assigned

Communicate consistently and courteously with CSD stakeholders, including parents
Relentless commitment to personal growth and development through participation in professional learning and other opportunities to develop and refine instruction and coaching skills
Predictable and reliable attendance
Assist the CTE Director in maintaining CTE budgets as directed
Assist the CTE director in grant application processes and required annual reporting

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal background check
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
A minimum of five years’ CTE teaching experience
Valid Utah teaching license; CTE endorsement
Completion of competency-based endorsements in coaching and education technology is preferred, or willing to acquire within the first three years of employment
Demonstrated expertise in the utilization of effective teaching strategies is required
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology and instructional media tools
Demonstrated expertise in data-based decision-making at multiple levels, including individual, small group, and department-wide
Successful experience coaching or advising other professionals preferred
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrated skill in teaching and facilitating adult learners
Flexible and willing to adapt to changes
Willingness to continually learn new information and skills related to student and adult learning and achievement, including content areas that may be outside of the current skill set
Ability to work collaboratively and individually on assigned tasks
Willingness to improve facilitation and leadership skills, and take feedback from teammates, supervisor, school administrators, and mentor
