Burkes Mechanical is a multi-state heavy industrial contractor providing mechanical, electrical, civil construction, and fabrication services to pulp & paper, chemical, petroleum, and manufacturing facilities.
We are hiring a Project Safety Manager for a long-term data center project based in Montgomery, AL.
The Site Safety Manager (SSM) provides support, advice, and guidance to project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field employees in maintaining a safe work environment. The SSM helps plan, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures on-site to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company standards, and project-specific safety requirements. This role promotes a culture of safety, minimizes workplace hazards, and works closely with the corporate safety director, project management, subcontractors, and field personnel to prevent accidents and injuries.

Be a role model for safety, promoting a positive safety culture and encouraging safe work practices

Ensure safety indoctrination for new employees, subcontractors, and visitors

Develop and implement site-specific safety plans and programs

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.)

Perform worksite inspections to assure compliance with applicable safety rules and regulations, and document inspections weekly

Assist company management and clients with investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses; assist with reports and corrective actions

Assist with toolbox talks and provide ongoing safety training for site personnel

Stop work when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed and ensure corrective actions are taken

Maintain safety documentation, including permits, logs, training records, and inspection reports

Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to integrate safety into daily operations

Participate in pre-task planning and job hazard analyses (JHA)

Assist with audits and inspections by regulatory agencies or clients

Minimum of 5 years of safety experience

Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards

OSHA 30-hour certification required

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
