Stocking Clerk (Produce/Cooler Departments)
Hours: Part-time – 20-30 hours/week, requires weekend flexibility.
Compensation: $17/hour to start

Where: The Rutland Area Food Co-op is the region’s premier community-owned natural foods market located in Downtown Rutland. Owned by a membership base of over 2,000 members, we provide affordable access to high quality, local, organic and sustainable foods and goods while proudly strengthening our regional economy by connecting more than 100 local farms and businesses with our members.
What you’ll do: As the primary stocking clerk for the produce and cooler departments, you will directly support our cooperative mission by maintaining beautiful, abundant, and rotated displays for two of our most dynamic and essential departments. The successful applicant will be a detail-oriented individual who works well as a member of a mission-driven team and who enjoys creating a positive and welcoming shopping experience by engaging with customers and member-owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products in cooler and produce sections following first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
- Monitor product quality and remove damaged, expired, or unsellable items.
- Keep shelves, displays, coolers, and storage areas clean, organized, and well-stocked.
- Receive deliveries and assist with unloading, checking, and storing products.
- Maintain accurate product labeling.
- Monitor inventory and communicate with supervisors about delivery needs and issues.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and store procedures.
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service when assisting shoppers.
- Assist with general store duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; stand, bend, and move throughout the shift; and work for length in chilled environments.
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work with speed, urgency, and precision with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn store procedures, food safety practices, and product handling standards.
- Previous retail, grocery, or produce experience is preferred but not required.

- Frequent work in refrigerated cooler areas.
