Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-focused Bilingual Slitter Operator to join The Griff Network’s converting operations.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on production machine operator experience and be able to work 2nd shift from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm. This position requires professional working proficiency in both English and Spanish to support communication, training, safety expectations, and day-to-day production needs across a bilingual manufacturing team.
The Slitter Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, monitoring, and supporting slitter and rewinder equipment used to convert master rolls of paper, film, foil, and other flexible materials into finished rolls that meet customer specifications and production requirements.
Direct slitting or rewinding experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong experience operating production machinery in a manufacturing environment will also be considered.
This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow work orders, complete machine setups and changeovers, assist with roll handling, inspect finished materials, document production activity, and identify or report equipment and quality concerns.
Schedule
This is a 2nd shift position.
Hours are 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down slitter and rewinder equipment according to work orders, customer specifications, and established production procedures.
- Review job requirements and verify the correct material, roll dimensions, core sizes, blade settings, packaging supplies, labels, and tooling before beginning production.
- Complete pre-run preparation, including cutting cores, staging materials, gathering packaging supplies, threading the machine, and preparing the equipment for operation.
- Position and adjust slitter blades, knives, spacers, shafts, web guides, tension controls, winding pressure, speed, and other machine settings to produce accurate finished rolls.
- Load and unload master rolls, finished rolls, cores, shafts, and production materials using forklifts, hoists, and approved material-handling equipment.
- Perform proper splicing techniques and monitor web tracking, alignment, tension, cutting, and winding conditions throughout each production run.
- Inspect materials and finished rolls for correct width, length, diameter, winding quality, edge condition, contamination, wrinkles, telescoping, and other defects.
- Use measuring devices accurately and make production adjustments to maintain product quality, reduce scrap, control waste, and meet customer specifications.
- Troubleshoot basic machine, mechanical, material, cutting, tracking, and winding issues while promptly reporting major equipment or maintenance concerns.
- Perform routine operator-level maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, inspections, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Complete Epicor transactions and accurately record labor hours, material usage, production quantities, quality checks, scrap, downtime, and job completion information.
- Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and employees in both English and Spanish as needed.
- Safely operate a forklift, follow all company safety and quality procedures, participate in cross-training, operate additional converting equipment as needed, and complete other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Must have hands-on production machine operator experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to work 2nd shift from 3:00 pm to 11:40 pm.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- One to three years of experience in manufacturing, production, converting, or industrial machine operation is preferred.
- Previous experience setting up and operating slitter, rewinder, or other roll-to-roll converting equipment is strongly preferred.
- Slitting experience is a plus, but not required if the candidate has strong production machine operator experience.
- Experience working with paper, film, foil, laminates, flexible packaging, coated materials, or other roll-based products is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, production instructions, customer specifications, safety procedures, and measuring devices.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to identify material defects, cutting issues, winding problems, and nonconforming products.
- Ability to complete basic machine setup, changeovers, quality checks, production documentation, and shift handoff communication.
- Forklift experience is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain company-required forklift certification.
- Dependable attendance, strong safety awareness, and the ability to operate equipment independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods, including up to eight hours during a scheduled shift. The employee is also required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment, handle tools and materials, position blades and machine components, reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, and communicate effectively with team members.
The position requires the ability to load, unload, move, position, and prepare production materials, master rolls, finished rolls, shafts, cores, tooling, and packaging supplies. The employee must be able to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without assistance or approved material-handling equipment.
The employee must be able to work around moving production equipment, cutting components, forklifts, roll-handling equipment, and industrial machinery while following all safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment.
