Bookseller/Barista
Part-time | $22/hour, plus tips
At Denver Book Society, we believe in the power and joy of books. Our bookstore exists to help every customer find a book they love and to create a warm, personal experience around reading. We're also a café and bar, an ice cream spot, event space, and aspiring community hub.
We're looking for someone who can both sell books and serve drinks/snacks. On the book side of things, we want someone who greets each customer warmly, loves discussing what they’re reading, and believes in personal recommendations over the algorithm. Behind the coffee counter/bar, we want someone who is quick to learn, calm under pressure, and able to offer excellent service.
Responsibilities
- Handsell books: help customers find titles they’re looking for; chat about their preferences and make appropriate recommendations; be familiar with popular titles and new releases
- Offer excellent customer service when making coffee drinks and serving bar items, snacks, and ice cream
- Keep the shop running smoothly during your shift: at the register, shelving and restocking books, café/bar upkeep
- Help during in-store events (readings, book clubs, and more)
- Maintain a welcoming, easygoing presence for people who walk through the door
Requirements
- Comfort working at a register, making drinks, and multitasking during busy rushes
- Customer service and social skills
- Weekend availability
- Experience with coffee/bar service is a plus, but not required
- Must be 21+ to serve alcohol (Colorado requirement)
