Rate of Pay: $30–35 per hour (based on experience)

Our inaugural We Are New York Summer Program celebrates the diversity, culture, neighborhoods, landmarks, and stories that make New York City unique while encouraging children to discover the artists, performers, and changemakers within themselves.
Position Summary
RISE is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and engaging Lead Theatre Teaching Artist to join our inaugural summer program for children ages 4–7.
Working in partnership with the Camp Director, the Lead Theatre Teaching Artist will deliver engaging theatre experiences that encourage imagination, confidence, collaboration, and joyful self-expression. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children, thrives in a collaborative environment, and believes in the transformative power of the arts.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily theatre, storytelling, movement, and dramatic play activities.
- Deliver theatre experiences based on the Camp Director's curriculum while contributing creative ideas and adapting activities to meet the needs of campers.
- Support the rehearsal and preparation of the campers' end-of-program showcase.
- Encourage creativity, confidence, teamwork, and self-expression through the performing arts.
- Foster a warm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child feels seen and supported.
- Work collaboratively with the Camp Director and Camp Assistant to ensure the smooth operation of each camp day.
- Assist with classroom management, transitions, and camper engagement throughout the day.
- Help prepare and organize props, costumes, and theatre materials.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and professional environment for campers at all times.
Qualifications
- Background in theatre, musical theatre, drama, performing arts, or theatre education.
- Experience working with young children is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Energetic, dependable, patient, and collaborative.
- Passion for arts education and youth development.
- Ability to take direction while confidently leading theatre activities.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching drama, creative movement, or performing arts classes.
- Camp, classroom, or youth program experience.
- First Aid and/or CPR certification (preferred but not required).
