Job Summary
Mukilteo Cedar & More is looking for a dependable, hands-on person to become part of our core production team.
We are a small, family-owned manufacturer of Western Red Cedar garden and outdoor products. This is a flexible production role that supports several important parts of our operation, including spraying/staining finished products, loading and unloading, material preparation, cutting, and shop assembly.
This position is best suited for someone who likes staying active, working with their hands, and moving between different responsibilities as production needs change.
Some days may involve several different tasks. Other days may involve spending most of the day spraying, preparing material, or repeatedly assembling the same product to complete an order. Being comfortable with both variety and repetition is important.
This is a production environment: quality, consistency, efficiency, reliability, and teamwork all matter.
What You'll Do
- Spray/stain cedar products and properly stage or warehouse finished inventory
- Load and unload products, lumber, and delivery trucks
- Prepare and organize materials for production
- Cut and process wood components using basic woodworking machinery and tools
- Assemble cedar planter boxes, trellises, and other garden/outdoor products using pneumatic and hand tools
- Measure materials accurately and follow established build specifications
- Inspect work for basic quality and consistency
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Shift between shop, finishing, warehouse, and loading duties depending on daily production needs
- Support the rest of the production team wherever additional help is needed
What We're Looking For
You do not need to be an experienced woodworker.
Experience in manufacturing, production, warehouse work, construction, fabrication, assembly, or another hands-on trade can translate very well to this position.
A strong candidate will:
- Be dependable and consistently show up ready to work
- Be comfortable with physical, hands-on work throughout the day
- Be able to lift and move products or materials weighing 80+ lbs when necessary
- Be comfortable working both independently and alongside a small team
- Follow instructions carefully and retain what they are taught
- Be willing to take notes and reference measurements or procedures as needed
- Have good attention to detail without losing sight of production pace
- Be comfortable performing repetitive tasks when larger production runs require it
- Be willing to learn new tools, products, and processes
- Communicate when something is unclear rather than guessing
- Take pride in creating and contributing to quality work
Experience with tape measures, pneumatic nailers, saws, drills, spray equipment, woodworking equipment, or similar tools is preferred.
*** Box truck driving experience is a big bonus!!! We occasionally need help with local deliveries, so a candidate who is comfortable driving and assisting with deliveries would be especially valuable.
What This Job Is Really Like
We want applicants to have a realistic picture of the position.
We manufacture a wide variety of cedar products, but we also produce them in volume. One week may involve building several different products; another may include a production run of hundreds of similar pieces.
This is not a custom woodworking or personal-project position, and it is not a job where every day involves creating something completely different.
At the same time, this is not an automated factory job. Our products are made locally from raw lumber using traditional woodworking equipment and hands-on assembly. Employees can physically see what they accomplished at the end of the day - and feel like they were really a part of it from start to finish!
The people who tend to do well here enjoy the rhythm and accomplishment of production work, while still appreciating the craftsmanship involved in turning raw cedar into a finished product.
Opportunity to Grow
We prefer to develop capable people from within.
A new employee may begin primarily helping with finishing, loading, material preparation, and simpler assembly work. As reliability, knowledge, and skill develop, there are opportunities to take on:
- Independent material preparation and cutting
- More complex product assembly
- Furniture and specialty cedar products
- Custom projects
- Greater independence and responsibility within the shop
Advancement and wage growth are based on demonstrated skill, reliability, efficiency, quality, and contribution — not simply time on the job.
