Join our team as a Shelter Advocate, where you'll make a meaningful difference by providing trauma-informed support and advocacy to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. In this role, you'll offer crisis intervention, advocacy, and case coordination while fostering a safe and respectful environment. Services are provided to individuals residing in emergency shelter, as well as those accessing assistance through the crisis line or walk-in services. You'll help clients connect with community resources, develop personalized safety plans, provide legal advocacy support, and maintain the confidentiality of all client information in accordance with Alaska law.
Beyond direct client services, the Shelter Advocate plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming shelter environment. Responsibilities include monitoring the facility, conducting room and safety checks, facilitating resident house meetings, communicating maintenance concerns, addressing housing-related issues through conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, and helping ensure the shelter remains clean, organized, and comfortable for residents. This position may also provide court accompaniment, facilitate educational and support groups, provide advocacy to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking at the hospital when requested by law enforcement or forensic nursing staff, and collaborate with community partners to coordinate comprehensive services that meet each client's unique needs.
We're looking for a compassionate, dependable professional with education or experience in human services, social work, psychology, or a related field. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate cultural humility in every interaction. A variety of shifts are available, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight coverage as needed to support 24-hour operations is required. Knowledge of Alaska's diverse communities, local social service resources, and issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault is highly valued. The Shelter Advocate reports directly to the Advocacy Manager.

Pay: $22.55 - $25.37 per hour
