Job Overview
Resident Assistants provide direct personal care and supportive services to residents living in a residential memory care environment. This role promotes dignity, safety, comfort, and quality of life for individuals experiencing cognitive impairment while supporting their physical, emotional, and social well-being in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulations.
This part-time position is every Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm, with per-diem availability for weekdays upon request/facility need.
Resident Care
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and eating.
- Provide cueing, redirection, and reassurance for residents with dementia-related behaviors.
- Observe and report changes in physical condition, behavior, or mood to nursing staff or supervisor.
- Encourage independence while ensuring resident safety and comfort.
- Assist with transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and equipment.
Safety and Supervision
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment at all times.
- Monitor residents for fall risk, wandering, or elopement behaviors and follow prevention protocols.
- Respond promptly to call lights, alarms, and resident needs.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
Engagement and Emotional Support
- Participate in and encourage resident involvement in activities and social programs.
- Use person-centered communication techniques appropriate for dementia care.
- Provide comfort, reassurance, and meaningful interaction to reduce anxiety or agitation.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with nurses, caregivers, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and in-services.
- Follow all facility policies, confidentiality standards, and resident rights regulations.
Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work with older adults experiencing memory impairment.
- Physical ability to assist with lifting, transferring, and prolonged standing/walking.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and dependable demeanor.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Completion of Dementia-specific training or certification.
- Prior experience in assisted living, long-term care, or memory care.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
Pay: $21.00 - $23.50 per hour
