We’re working on behalf of a client to hire a Controls Design Manager who enjoys leading technical teams, setting priorities, and keeping design quality consistent across multiple projects. Requirements (must-haves)
- Proven experience leading or mentoring a technical design/engineering team
- Solid knowledge of industrial control systems and control panel design
- Comfortable balancing people leadership with technical review/oversight
- Strong organization, communication, and decision-making skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug/alcohol screening
Preferred background
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of related experience, or Associate degree with 8+ years
- Hands-on familiarity with AutoCAD and/or EPLAN
- Experience interpreting/working to NFPA standards and UL 508A expectations
- Track record improving workflows, standards, or design quality
What you’ll do
- Lead, coach, onboard, and develop controls design talent
- Plan workload, staffing, and priorities to hit deadlines and deliverables
- Review/approve drawings and design packages for accuracy and compliance
- Partner with project teams and other departments to resolve design issues
- Drive standardization (parts, libraries, documentation, tools) and continuous improvement
- Serve as the escalation point for complex controls design decisions
