Junior High Assistant Principal
Enrollment of approximately 830 students (grades 7-9). Requires Secondary Principal or Principal K-12 certificate from PA Dept. of Education; prior administrative experience preferred. Successful candidate will be a strong instructional leader with proven ability to promote positive staff and community relationships. OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To assist the Building Principal in the administration and overall operation to promote the education, development and opportunity for students and staff at the secondary
level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Assists the Principal in implementing the observance of all policies and procedures established by the School Board in order to maintain an orderly, safe and effective learning environment.
- Assists in enforcing the discipline code.
- Monitors and remediates disciplinary cases/situations to ensure appropriate student conduct.
- Assists in planning and organizing the school activities/assemblies
- Oversees the safety administration of the School Plant.
- Reviews and evaluates teacher lesson plans, objectives and structural activities and student evaluation techniques.
- Evaluates student achievement patterns of each classroom teacher and recommend changes in instructional strategies when necessary.
- Assist in the supervision of extracurricular activities including athletic contest, dances, student counsel activities, etc.
- Participates as a team in assisting the Principal in the selection, supervision and evaluation of all school building personnel.
- Assists Principal in the development, determination and monitoring of staff development programs.
- Assists Principal in the development and implementation of the curriculum.
- Oversees and monitors the student attendance for the building.
- Assists in the development of the building budget and responsibility for preparation and maintenance of all required building record and reports.
- Prepares a variety of reports and documents as requested by the Principal.
- Participates in IEP meetings.
- Assists staff members with curriculum and instruction by providing them with ideas, resource materials and current research findings.
- Assists the Principal in the developing yearly schedules and assignments for students and all personnel.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:
1. Attends meetings and conferences as required.
2. Attends training and seminars to maintain professional growth and development.
3. Assists other District personnel as requested.
4. Operates a variety of equipment including a computer and other office equipment.
5. Performs other job related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives occasional instruction and supervision from Principal in regard to work duties. Direct and indirect instructions given from Superintendent and Director of Education.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
Provides direct and indirect supervision to Teachers, Counselors and other building staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors in adequate workspace, lighting, ventilation and temperatures.
- Works with average indoor exposure to noise and stress but subject to constant disruptions.
- Works indoors with normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
- Periodically exposed to irate students and/or parents.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling and reasoning senses necessary to carry out job duties.
- Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain policies and procedures, and follow instructions.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk periodically throughout the workday with occasional carrying, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands to operate a computer and calculator to simple movements of feet/legs and torso necessary to carry out job duties.
- Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on work.
- Sedentary work with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with weights of approximately ten pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. :
Masters Degree in Education plus Pennsylvania Secondary School Principal Certificate.
B. :
2 years of experience working in a school environment and able to demonstrate knowledge of supervisory skills or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess knowledge of state and local laws, regulations and policies governing school codes.
- Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and the ability to effectively supervise the work of the assigned personnel and handle related personnel matters.
