Purpose:
The Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a middle school basketball program for youth ages 9–14. The coach will provide instruction in basketball fundamentals while creating a safe, positive, and encouraging environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, confidence, and personal growth.
Required Qualifications:

Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.

Experience working with youth ages 9–14 preferred.

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Ability to work effectively with children of different skill levels.

Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment.

CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.

Must be dependable, responsible, and able to follow all youth program and facility safety policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and lead basketball practices appropriate for youth ages 9–14.

Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, rebounding, and footwork.

Develop and lead age-appropriate drills, activities, and games.

Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive behavior.

Provide constructive feedback and support to help participants improve their skills.

Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming practice environment.

Monitor participants and address safety or behavioral concerns appropriately.

Serve as a positive role model for participants.

Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and program staff.

Follow all Riverdale Y policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Assist with maintaining equipment and ensuring the basketball area is clean and organized.
