We are a Baltimore City, Maryland based IOP Behavioral Health Clinic dedicated to providing trauma‑informed, person‑centered, and recovery‑oriented behavioral health services. Position Summary
Working under general supervision, the ADT and/or Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor performs a full range of duties by providing intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Duties include the day-to-day development, implementation, and maintenance of treatment planning, maintenance of accurate documentation of individuals participation and progress during treatment in accordance with all regulatory agency standards.
The Counselor provides a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, and person‑centered model of care while ensuring ethical, high‑quality, and compliant service delivery.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate individuals to determine whether they are appropriate for treatment in our program..
- Conducts comprehensive substance abuse assessments of individuals to interpret information necessary for planning treatment and evaluating an individual’s progress.
- Develops, facilitates, and documents group and individual therapy sessions
- Maintains records documenting individual’s treatment plans, progress notes, progress in treatment, evaluation, and discharge plans in accordance with all regulatory agency standards.
- Provides supportive therapy and psycho-educational therapies to clients in individual, group, and family settings in the office and/or community setting.
- Collaborates with other team members to develop and implement a client-centered treatment plan.
- Assesses and tracks the individual’s stages of change readiness and stages of recovery.
- Complies with federal and state regulations on privacy, confidentiality, and client rights.
- Adheres to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and attends training to maintain and/or advance credentialing.
- Performs all duties and tasks in a timely manner and/or in the timeframe specified by policy.
- Assists with the intake process as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of established diagnostic criteria for substance abuse disorders, drug abuse treatment modalities and therapeutic intervention techniques.
- Experience working with adults with co-occurring disorders.
- Knowledge of federal, state, local, and agency regulations policies and procedures
- Knowledge of support systems and community resources available to individuals and their families
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with knowledge of medical terminology as related to substance abuse and dependence
- Ability to develop and maintain effective and ethical therapeutic relationships with individuals and groups
- Ability to accurately document information and complete reports and clinical records in a timely manner.
- Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to establish therapeutic relationships with individuals and to communicate and work effectively with others involved in the individual’s treatment.
- Ability to work well with an interdisciplinary team.
Other Duties:
Performs other tasks or assignments which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum qualifications: Must have a State of Maryland certification in good standing as an ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, or LCADC.
- Addition Counseling experience (1 year experience)
Compliance & Risk Management
Maintain Compliance with
- Maryland BHA and MDH regulations
- COMAR (Community-Based Behavioral Health Programs)
- HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements
- Joint Commission Behavioral Health Care & Human Services Standards
- Follow guidance on mandatory reporting, crisis intervention, safety planning, and ethical decision‑making.
