Position Overview
Auto Werkstatt German Car Repair is looking for an experienced Lead German Automotive Technician to join our team and take a leadership role in the shop.
The Lead Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining German vehicles, while also providing technical leadership and support to other technicians. The ideal candidate has strong experience with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and MINI and is capable of handling complex diagnostics and repairs.
This position is for a technician who can lead by example, solve difficult problems, maintain high repair standards, and help the shop operate efficiently.
Primary ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Diagnostic Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical problems on German vehicles.
- Perform advanced diagnostic testing using professional scan tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Diagnose engine, transmission, drivetrain, suspension, steering, braking, HVAC, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Perform major repairs and component replacements.
- Perform timing-chain/belt repairs, cooling-system repairs, engine repairs, and other major mechanical work.
- Diagnose check-engine lights, warning lights, drivability problems, and intermittent electrical issues.
- Follow manufacturer repair procedures and technical specifications.
- Verify repairs before vehicles are released to customers.
Lead Technician Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical resource for the shop.
- Assist other technicians with difficult diagnostics and repairs.
- Review repair procedures and help technicians develop effective diagnostic strategies.
- Help identify repeat failures and prevent unnecessary parts replacement.
- Assist the Shop Foreman and management with technical decisions.
- Help maintain high productivity and quality standards throughout the shop.
- Mentor and train less-experienced technicians.
- Promote teamwork and professional communication between technicians and service advisors.
- Assist with prioritizing difficult or time-sensitive repairs.
Quality Control
The Lead Technician is expected to maintain a high standard of workmanship.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspect completed repairs when assigned.
- Verify that the original customer concern has been corrected.
- Check for warning lights and diagnostic faults.
- Verify proper fluid levels when applicable.
- Check for abnormal noises, vibrations, leaks, or drivability concerns.
- Confirm proper operation after major repairs.
- Follow Auto Werkstatt’s multi-stage quality-control process.
- Communicate any concerns immediately to management.
German Vehicle Expertise
Strong experience with one or more of the following is required:
- BMW
- Mercedes-Benz
- Audi
- Volkswagen
- Porsche
- MINI
Experience with modern European vehicle diagnostic systems, electrical systems, CAN-bus systems, modules, programming/coding, and manufacturer-specific procedures is highly preferred.

Qualifications
Required:
- Several years of professional automotive repair experience.
- Strong German automotive repair experience.
- Advanced diagnostic ability.
- Ability to diagnose problems independently.
- Ability to perform complex repairs.
- Strong understanding of automotive electrical and mechanical systems.
- Professional attitude and dependable attendance.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- ASE certifications.
- Factory/OEM certifications.
- BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, or MINI certifications.
- Experience using advanced diagnostic equipment.
- Previous Lead Technician, Master Technician, or Shop Foreman experience.
- Experience mentoring junior technicians.

Pay: $35.00 - $60.00 per hour
