IMMEDIATE HIRE FOR DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS FOR BRONX RESIDENCE.
Job Summary:
We seek Direct Support Professionals (DSP) who are caring, compassionate, patient and wish to make a difference in the lives of individuals with varied disabilities for our Residential Program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensures all aspects of the individual’s developmental needs are addressed including behavior management, communication, nutritional well-being, medical care, and socialization.
- Provide an environment conducive to learning new skills.
- Prepare, along with engaging individuals in the preparation of meals, serving, and clean up after meals.
- Encourage positive interactions with housemates, staff, and neighbors.
- Encourage community integration through activities conducive to learning that can be reinforced through participation in neighborhood activities.
- Take individuals to various recreational and community-inclusive activities throughout the day.
- Notify site nurse/management of any changes in individual's condition, or health.
- Handle emergencies as they occur and notify the appropriate supervisor/management and staff.
- Report all individual injuries, incidents, and concerns to management immediately.
- Intervene when needed to protect individuals.
- In absence of the Program Manager, use Agency/Program protocol to notify the next appropriate Administrator when needed.
- Document all activities and information in the daily log.
- Provide documentation of observations and training to individuals based on their Individual Service Plan.
- Track individual’s progress and document all services as per their individual program plan.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Manager or the designee.
Qualifications + Education:
- High school diploma or Equivalent or Relevant Certifications
- No experience is required. Able to teach individuals basic positive interactions, encourage community integration and socialization, ability to set a positive example to individuals regarding basic socially acceptable skills.
- Caring, compassionate and positive attitude towards individuals, coworkers, clinical staff, families, and neighbors.
- Good communication skills, written as well as verbal. Ability to learn basic sign language where needed.
- AMAP, SCIP-R, CPR, First Aid preferred or training provided.
- Basic and simple computer skills.
- Background Check and Fingerprinting required.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred, but not required.
