JOB TITLE: GI/Urology Surgery Scheduler
SHIFT: 1.0 FTE, 80 Hours, Bi-Weekly, Days, M - F
Position Summary:
Cameron GI and Cameron Urology is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused GI Surgery Scheduler to join our team. This position plays a critical role in coordinating gastrointestinal procedures and ensuring patients are scheduled accurately, prepared appropriately, and supported throughout the procedure scheduling process.
The GI Surgery Scheduler works closely with providers, clinical staff, anesthesia, procedural areas, and patients to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow from procedure order through completion.

Schedule GI procedures including colonoscopies, EGDs, and combined procedures

Schedule Urology surgeries
- Review and verify procedure requests for accuracy, including:

Procedure type
-
Performing provider
-
Scheduling details
-
Appropriate case entry

Coordinate scheduling needs across multiple providers and procedural schedules

Monitor provider schedules, vacations, and procedure blocks to ensure accurate availability

Provide procedure instructions and prep information to patients

Complete and mail preparation paperwork for patients scheduled by phone

Contact patients prior to procedures to confirm readiness and provide reminders

Follow up with patients who need to:

Complete scheduling

Reschedule procedures
-
Provide additional information

Review patient charts to identify potential needs prior to procedures, including:

Medication holds
-
Anticoagulation considerations

Additional medical clearances
-
Special scheduling requirements

Communicate necessary information to appropriate clinical teams

Complete patient pre-registration and enter required information into EIO

Verify insurance eligibility and benefits to ensure coverage is active:

At the time the procedure is scheduled

During the pre-registration process

Utilize available resources to verify insurance, including:

Real-Time Eligibility (RTE)
-
Insurance online portals
-
Verification by phone when needed
-
Identify insurance concerns that may impact scheduling, including inactive coverage, out-of-network benefits, or required updates

Complete procedure estimates for:

Self-pay patients
-
Out-of-network patients
-
Patients requesting cost information prior to procedures

Ensure required documentation and paperwork are completed prior to procedures

Previous healthcare scheduling, medical office, or procedural scheduling experience preferred

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Ability to work independently and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team

Experience with electronic medical records (Epic preferred)

Knowledge of insurance verification, authorizations, or medical terminology preferred
