Education/Experience Requirements
- Must meet federal, state and local requirements for position level and have relative experience to handle position requirements.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Be able to receive and carry out directions effectively.
- Work well with others; be a team player.
- Have CPR/First Aid certificate and food handler (as needed) permit current at all times.
- Have Tuberculosis test and HIV/AIDS course certificate on file.
- Have completion of Abuse and Neglect.
- Be registered with STARS (State Training and Registration System) and complete 10 hours of training per year.
Physical Demands
- Will frequently lift or move average weight as in lifting, carrying, and holding children and infants (10 to 60 lbs.).
- Will occasionally lift or move average weight (10-60 lbs.) in awkward or difficult positions.
- Will rarely lift heavy weights (over 60 lbs.) but may have to in an emergency situation. (Some children, equipment, or supplies may weigh more than 60 lbs.)
- Required to stand up 75% of the workday.
- Must be able to interact with children on the playground or in classroom, (run, jump, dance, and some physical exercise).
- Able to physically and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances.
- Seeks assistance to perform physical demands of the job if necessary, (lifting or moving heavy objects).
- Must be able to stoop and bend to interact on the child’s level.

- Assist in keeping the room neat and orderly.

Assignments
- Assist the co-teacher in preparation of program activities and materials.
- Assist the co-teacher in readying classroom for seasonal/theme changes.
- Supervise children and actively engages with them in indoor/outdoor settings.
- Assist children by doing for them or helping them changing clothes, changing diapers, washing hands, readying for naps, serving snacks/lunch.
- Keep class area clean and orderly.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Administrative Procedures
- Completes and submits all records as required.
- Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and events as scheduled.
- Dresses in accordance with the Sonshine Learning Center dress code policy.
- Supports all Childcare Services policies and procedures as stated in the Childcare Services Policies and Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, and official memos.
Safety and Sanitary Procedures
- Checks diapers of children not toilet trained and lifts and carries children to changing table to change diapers. Physical demands: 10-60 lbs.
- Assist children in personal hygiene such as toilet training, etc.
- Assist in cleaning and sanitizing cribs, toys, cubbies etc.
- Uses sanitary procedures for the storage of bedding, clothing etc.
- Is knowledgeable of and able to conduct emergency procedures.
- Follows all safety and hygiene procedures including but not limited to: Lifting carrying, climbing, diaper changing, toileting, hand washing, etc.
- Insures that all children can be seen at all times during sleeping/resting hours.
Classroom Management/Organization.
- Assist the co-teacher in maintaining information boards and letters to parents.
- Help in gathering and maintaining supplies and equipment for each day’s activities.
- Assist in maintaining a classroom that is safe, neat, clean, attractive and ready for children. Label all children’s supplies as needed.
- Rearranges tables, chairs and equipment for various activities when necessary.
- Model good manners and provide a good role model in all activities.
- Provides restful atmosphere during rest time, including soothing, quiet music and rubbing backs.
- Follows the disciplinary guidelines and handles disciplinary situations individually.
- Initiates and carries out large and small group activities with children, which may include participating in playground, activities.
- Cleans classroom, outside play areas and restrooms as assigned or needed. (Includes sweeping mopping and vacuuming)
- Teaches respect for classroom, equipment and supplies.
- Provides constant supervision of all children: A child is never left alone, or left to be supervised by another child or parent.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ask for help and assistance when needed.
- Maintains a friendly, supportive rapport with the parents but lets the co-teacher take the lead in discussing “problems” with the parents (please talk to a lead on this one before discussing “problems” with parents.)
- Prepares snacks as needed.
- Maintains positive and supportive business, licensing and regulatory relationships.
- Handles routine situations with good judgment, flexibility and good humor.
- Encourages children to seek assistance and shows trust and confidence in them.
- Other duties may include but are not limited to: washing dishes after snack, emptying the trash, covering for others in case of an emergency, answering the phone and taking messages, cleaning storage closets, laundry, etc.
- Follows the disciplinary guidelines and handles disciplinary situations individually.

Pay: $21.50 - $25.00 per hour
