Position Summary
Valaurum is experiencing rapid growth and is seeking a full-time Manufacturing Technician to join our 2nd Shift team (1:15 PM – 9:45 PM). This hands-on operations role is responsible for overseeing the operation of vacuum coating and measurement equipment, conducting daily process monitoring, and performing routine maintenance and repair to ensure optimal equipment performance and product quality. The ideal candidate will have experience with thin film, web-based vacuum coating processes and thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position reports directly to the Manufacturing Manager – Thin Films and offers an excellent opportunity to grow with an innovative and expanding company.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs set-up calibration coating thickness measurement XRF spectrometer and running the vacuum coater equipment.
- Perform necessary clean-outs as needed.
- Maintain facility assets through scheduled preventative maintenance and repair activities which includes but not limited to cleaning, routing, and filling, product racking inspections and repairs.
- Perform appropriate inspections and documentation.
- Detect and report defective or questionable material, product, and/or conditions to the department manager.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order.
- Adhere to all safety requirements and wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment required by the job.
- Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations to ensure employee and facility safety.
- Maintain a safe work environment for self and others when operating equipment and/or performing job functions.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Required Qualifications and Experience
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Thin Films tech experience or schooling (preferred)
- Five years of industrial production experience
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, or Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- The most important requirement is the willingness to learn measurement tools and new equipment as an opportunity for career advancement.
- Knowledge in flexible web converting fields.
- Practical and/or theoretical understanding of winding of flexible material preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as customers and suppliers.
- Can work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- You must genuinely enjoy organizing, planning and thinking quickly in a fast paced, demanding environment.
- Current driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Physical vapor deposition knowledge preferred.
- Background in quality management systems or GFSI benchmarked standards is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications with strong emphasis on Excel
- Technical writing skills
- Experience with entering data into Sage or equivalent ERP systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Work Environment
- Manufacturing facility with quality control duties primarily in an office setting
- Exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration
- Moderate noise level (hearing protection not required)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout the shift
- Frequently lift or move items up to 75 pounds
- Visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
