LOGAN Hope is a Christ-centered K-8 school that provides rigorous, holistic education for under-resourced students in the Logan neighborhood of Philadelphia. The idea for LOGAN Hope was originally born out of seeing the needs of a community of refugees who had escaped the genocide of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. This idea has grown into our current commitment to helping individuals and families who struggle daily with the effects of poverty, seeking to transform our community by equipping our students for academic success and a life of servant leadership through rigorous academics, and Christian discipleship.
LOGAN Hope is seeking a passionate individual to serve our students in the position of Music teacher for all grades (K-8). Applicants must be committed followers of Jesus Christ and should demonstrate a commitment to the integration of faith and learning with the goal of equipping, inspiring, and challenging their students to love and serve Christ in the world.
Goals:
- Provide students with foundational understanding of musical principles
- Create instructional experiences that engage students with instrumental and vocal music
- Train students for basic musical performances
- Invite students to see the role of music in a life of worship
Commitments:
- Up to 10 hours of afternoon instruction per week, Monday through Thursday
- Three afternoon classes each day, 45 minutes each, 1:00-3:30 p.m, with a daily prep period.
- OPTIONAL: Additional 10 hours per week as afterschool class monitor, Mon.-Fri.
Responsibilities:
- Works with school administration to plan out units and lessons for the school year (August-June)
- Creates lesson plan for group sessions on an age-appropriate level
- Manages classes of 8-12 students with strong classroom management skills
- Engages students with skill-appropriate instruments or musical pieces
- Seeks out needed resources for class sessions; gathers and puts away instruments and materials as needed
- Prepares students for basic musical performances, as planned for, within class time
- Seeks guidance from school leadership to respond to any new challenges or changes to plans
- Communicates with school administration regarding changes in schedule or timing
