Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly, including digital X-ray machines and 3D scanners.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures such as restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and professionalism.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Manage patient records using EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, accurately documenting medical history, treatment plans, and medical coding details.
- Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, maintaining aseptic techniques, and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain dental terminology clearly to enhance their understanding of procedures.
- Support infection control protocols by adhering to strict sterilization procedures and maintaining a clean clinical environment.
- Collaborate with the dental team as part of four-handed dentistry practices to improve efficiency and patient experience.
- Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and managing medical documentation for insurance claims or medical records requests.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred, especially with general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, or prosthodontics cases.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking X-rays, and using Practice Management Systems
- Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge related to oral structures, and proper use of medical imaging equipment.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations for safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology related to dentistry and pediatrics, as well as medical coding practices for billing purposes.
