A well-established, second-generation mechanical construction contractor is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of complex mechanical projects. This is a growth-track role for someone ready to step into full project management leadership.
About the role
You will work directly alongside senior Project Managers and field superintendents, supporting the full project lifecycle from pre-construction through closeout. This is a hands-on, high-visibility position with direct responsibility for budgets, schedules, procurement, and documentation across active mechanical construction projects.
What you'll do
- Manage submittals, RFIs, procurement, and change orders across assigned projects
- Track project schedules and budgets; maintain cost forecasting and monthly valuations
- Coordinate material and equipment buyout with purchasing; expedite deliveries to meet schedule
- Process and negotiate subcontractor agreements and supplier invoices
- Oversee billing, retention collection, and progress payments
- Assist in staffing coordination and labor productivity tracking with field leadership
- Support project setup, permitting, pre-construction turnover, and closeout activities
- Maintain project documentation to protect contract compliance and company interests
What we're looking for
- 5–7+ years of experience in mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, or MEP construction project coordination or management
- Solid understanding of construction financials: budgeting, billing schedules, cost control, and change order pricing
- Experience with submittal logs, procurement coordination, and subcontract administration
- Strong communication skills — comfortable bridging office and field teams
- Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered
- Proficiency in project management software and standard construction documentation practices
