Our Little Wichita Barn is home to dogs and cats on some of the most important journeys of their lives. Some are recovering from difficult pasts, learning to trust people, receiving medical care, or patiently waiting for a foster or forever family.
This small shelter environment typically cares for approximately 10 to 15 dogs and 30 cats. We’re looking for a dependable, compassionate, and hardworking part-time teammate who believes every animal deserves kindness, patience, dignity, and the opportunity to thrive.
✅ Provide exceptional daily care for dogs and cats, including feeding, watering, administering medications as directed, and closely monitoring each animal’s health, appetite, bathroom habits, activity level, and behavior.
✅ Walk and exercise dogs throughout your shift while providing enrichment, positive interactions, socialization, and confidence-building activities tailored to each dog’s individual needs.
✅ Provide cats with gentle handling, enrichment, socialization, playtime, and affection based on their individual comfort levels and care plans.
✅ Support animals recovering from medical procedures by following care instructions carefully, monitoring incisions, mobility, appetite, and behavior, and promptly reporting concerns to leadership or the medical team.
✅ Clean and disinfect kennels, cat rooms, crates, litter boxes, play areas, bowls, bedding, toys, floors, furniture, and common spaces to maintain a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment.
✅ Pick up waste, scoop litter boxes, handle laundry and dishes, remove trash, organize supplies, restock inventory, and help keep all animal-care areas clean and comfortable.
✅ Provide calm, compassionate handling and positive attention that helps animals feel secure, reduce stress, build trust, and prepare for successful adoption.
✅ Observe and document changes in health, appetite, mobility, behavior, or activity level, communicating concerns quickly with supervisors and the medical or behavior teams.
✅ Follow all individual feeding instructions, medication schedules, handling restrictions, behavior plans, and shelter safety procedures.
✅ Assist with dog introductions, animal movement, enrichment projects, basic training exercises, and daily routines as directed by shelter leadership.
✅ Help prepare animals and shelter spaces for adoption appointments, foster meetings, volunteer activities, fundraising events, and community outreach.
✅ Capture quality photos and videos that showcase each animal’s personality and help them connect with potential foster and adoptive families.
✅ Accept and organize deliveries, assemble crates or animal-care equipment, maintain supply areas, and assist with general facility organization.
✅ Assist with light facility upkeep and other shelter duties as needed to keep the Little Wichita Barn operating safely and efficiently.
