About Gowanus Fitness
We’re a thriving, independent gym in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn with a strong reputation for quality coaching and building real strength in a sustainable, approachable way. We pride ourselves on high quality coaching, a tight community, and a welcoming environment. After four successful years, we’re continuing to grow and looking for our first dedicated Front Desk Associate & Community Coordinator to help us take member experience and community connection to the next level.
The Role
We’re hiring someone who loves people, thrives on organization, and gets excited about bringing members together. This isn’t a typical gym front desk job. There’s no cleaning required, very few urgent walk-in issues, and you’ll have real ownership over planning fun community events (8-12 per year). You’ll be the welcoming face of the gym while helping foster the kind of community that keeps members coming back.
Key Responsibilities
Member Services & Front Desk Operations
- Greet members and guests with genuine warmth and energy.
- Ensure all members are checked-in using PushPress software.
- Respond to emails and text messages from clients, and handle admin tasks efficiently.
- Process membership requests, payments, and cancellations.
Community Building & Event Planning
- Plan, organize, and execute 8-12 community events per year (e.g., social outings and seasonal celebrations)
- Collaborate with our General Manager and Head Coach on event ideas, budgeting, and promotion.
- Promote events to members through email, social media, class announcements, and in-gym signage.
- Coordinate logistics for events (scheduling, setup, and follow-up).
- Track event attendance and gather feedback to improve future events.
- Help foster a strong sense of community by recognizing member milestones and encouraging connections among members.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager with administrative tasks as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized front desk and lounge area (no equipment or facility cleaning required).
- Open packages and restock gym items as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
- Outgoing, personable, and upbeat. You naturally make people feel welcome.
- Into health & exercise. You believe in what we do and can speak authentically about it.
- Organized and detail oriented with strong follow through (event planning or coordination experience is a plus).
- 1-3+ years in customer service, hospitality, retail, sales, or event coordination.
- Comfortable with basic tech (Google Workspace, PushPress, Canva).
- Live in or near Brooklyn and available for peak morning hours and possibly Saturday mornings.
Bonus points if you’ve worked in fitness/wellness environments or planned events before (even informally).
Schedule
- Core hours: Mon-Fri mornings (6:45-11:15am, but flexible)
- Possibly Saturday mornings (8:30-11:30am)
- Flexible around your needs (some work can be done remotely)
Compensation & Perks
- $19-$25 per hour (based on experience)
- Complimentary unlimited gym membership for you + discounted rate for a partner
- Paid time off and sick days (pro-rated)
- 401(k) plan
- Opportunity to grow with a profitable, owner-operated gym
Why Join Gowanus Fitness?
This is a rare chance to have real impact in an independently owned, community driven gym located in a fast growing part of Brooklyn. You’ll help shape our community while working with passionate coaches and members who actually show up and support each other. No corporate bureaucracy. Just great people and meaningful work.
If you’re energetic, reliable, and love connecting people through fitness, we’d love to meet you!
