Position Overview
VFW Post 7232 is seeking an experienced and hands-on Cantina Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Post's bar and kitchen. The Cantina Manager is responsible for running an efficient, well-organized, and welcoming operation — from workflow and inventory to staffing, menu development, and financial management — in close coordination with the House Committee. This is a great opportunity for a motivated hospitality professional who wants to lead a team and help serve our veteran community.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilizing your creativity and out of the box thinking to grow the Cantinas business profits and offerings.
- Optimize kitchen and bar layout and workflow to improve efficiency
- Monitor cleanliness, sanitation, and food-handling practices
- Implement strategies for inventory management, storage, ordering, & accountability for products and services
- Hire, train, and manage bar and kitchen employees, including bartenders, cooks, servers, and other staff
- Develop the menu and drink costs and ROI in collaboration with the House Committee
- Work with our vendors to assure we are receiving fair pricing
- Create employee work schedules
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs), including opening and closing procedures for each staff position
- Manage the Cantina budget, deposits, and accounting
- Schedule repairs and maintenance for bar and kitchen equipment, including fryers, refrigerators, ovens, and related equipment
Qualifications
- Prior experience in restaurant, bar, or food-service management strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service regulations
- Demonstrated experience with inventory control, purchasing, and vendor relationships
- Basic bookkeeping/accounting skills; experience managing a budget and cash deposits
- Strong leadership, scheduling, and staff-training skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Food handler and/or alcohol service certification (or ability to obtain within a specified period)
- Serv Safe certification (or ability to obtain within a specified period)
- Good standing and ability to work cooperatively with the House Committee and Post leadership
