With a mission to support the holistic needs of children, FKO fully believes learning extends well beyond the traditional classroom, and OST (Out of School Time) Educators are a key component to building life-long learning skills.
ABOUT THE OST APPRENTICESHIP:
FKO OST apprentices are hired as full-time employees during their one-year apprenticeship. Our apprentices are part of a wider cohort that draws from multiple OST organizations across the state. All apprentices are expected to finish within 18 months. If you are accepted into our apprenticeship program, you must:
Complete 150 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) during the school year by attending live training sessions on Zoom every Tuesday from 10am-12:30pm and every first Thursday of the month from 10am-12pm (Oct.-Mar).
Complete all assigned practice application tasks outside of your RTI schedule
Complete 2,000 hours of On-the–Job Training (OJT) throughout the course of your apprenticeship by maintaining regular attendance and punctuality, and adhering to a forty hour in person work week schedule, defined as Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm, with deviations based on individual community school calendars
Meet with your assigned mentor on a regular basis to discuss professional goals, evaluate competency development, and connect your RTI to on-the-job training
Job Description:
This one-year, full-time, paid apprenticeship opportunity offers a blend of OST-focused coursework and on-the-job training. Morning hours are to be utilized by attending live coursework sessions, completing practice application tasks, and other relevant apprenticeship activities, including assisting Site Directors with a variety of tasks. Afternoon hours are spent in program, with the goal of providing a positive, safe, fun, and high-quality experience for all children and families.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Complete all requirements of the OST apprenticeship;
Incorporate FKO’s core values of kindness, support, collaboration, appreciation of differences, and holistic learning in all activities and interactions;
Provide a positive, safe, fun, and memorable quality experience to all children and families involved in FKO’s afterschool and summer programs;
Consistently provide active supervision for all children in the program;
Implement well-planned, intentional daily activities
Support Site Director during administrative hours with tasks such as, but not limited to:
Program Planning: lesson planning, activity/material prep, classroom organizing, cleaning, bulletin board, family engagement, special event, community support;
Admin Support: snack prep, creating and disseminating snack menu, managing snack inventory and logs, maintaining accurate attendance tracking, filing program documents, restocking and organizing first aid supplies, assisting with transportation-related tasks
Serve as a positive role model for children and staff;
Facilitate consistent communication with FKO families;
Adhere to EEC licensing regulations and FKO policies and procedures;
All other duties as assigned, by Site, District, and Executive Director.
Education and Experience:
Must meet EEC OST Minimum Hiring Requirements for Group Leader, including the following:
Must be 18 years or older
Minimum 6 months of supervised experience working with school age children (5-14 years of age)
High School Diploma or equivalent
Suitable Background Records Check
Complete EEC Essentials 2.0 within 30 days of hire
First Aid/CPR trained within 6 months of hire
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements:
Requires standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, and running
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
