POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Sprayer
REPORTS TO: Foreman, Superintendent
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
FT / PT STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Shipyard(s) & Customer Facilities
SUMMARY
Use marine coating systems application techniques and equipment to professionally pressure interior and exterior Navy Vessel surfaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Paint parts, equipment, interior and exterior of the ship and in protected laydown areas.
- Utilize correct mix ratios in accordance with NAVSEA and manufacturer approved standards.
- Wipe down and treat surface with applicable solutions.
- Mix and match colors of paint, epoxy, urethane, and enamels.
- Apply coating system to specifications
- Operate spray painting equipment and/or brushes or rolls.
- Masks, removes, covers, or otherwise protects furniture, hardware, trim, and other nonpainted surfaces.
- Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent
- Complies with chemical and waste storage and disposal regulations and best practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES
- Knowledge in HLVP, Spray Painting and Airless
- Knowledge of spoxies and UHS Coatings
- Knowledge of surface preparation tehnciques
- Ability to troubleshoot spray equipment
- Ability to estimate and check mil thickness being applied
- Knowledge of storage and disposal regulations and best practices
- Basic understanding of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Formal or informal on the job training
- C-12 or C-14 Certification
- 2+ years of experience in the application of coatings in the marine industry
- OSHA 10 Maritime Standards (Company may provide)
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, heights, confined spaces, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
- Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50+ pounds (50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs frequently, 10 lbs constantly)
- Lifting includes from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, waist to overhead
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- May be required to wear a respirator
- Some travel may be required

- Putty knife, utility knife, adjustable wrence, screwdriver, tape measure, wire cutters, pliers, flashlight, tool bag, scraper, masking tape, spray hose, paint brushes
