Lead Electronics Technician — Component-Level Industrial Repair
Providence Industrial Electronics Repair | Pilot Mountain, NC | Full-Time, On-Site
Most shops swap boards. We fix them.
Providence Industrial Electronics Repair is looking for a veteran bench technician who can diagnose and repair ALL categories of industrial electronics down to the component level — AC/DC drives, PLCs, lasers, logic boards, analog boards, switch-mode power supplies, industrial computer systems, "unknown modules" and everything in between.
This is also a leadership role. Alongside our other lead technicians, you'll co-supervise a team of about ten support technicians: delegating disassembly, component replacement, cleaning, and documentation work, coaching them to meet our quality and productivity standards, and keeping repairs moving efficiently through the shop.
The right person leads from the bench. You set the pace by example, keep yourself and your team focused, and understand that in a repair shop, throughput and quality pay everyone's salary.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electronics of every category to the component level
- Co-supervise a team of ~10 support technicians with other lead technicians
- Delegate repair tasks and coach support techs to meet quality and productivity standards
- Create and use test fixtures, test procedures, and repair documentation
- Identify and cross-reference components using schematics and datasheets
- Communicate with customers by phone and email on job status
- Manage repairs with an eye on the business: labor time, parts cost (COGS), and job profitability
YOUR WORKSPACE
Your own fully equipped primary bench, plus function-specific stations for PCB rework, AC/DC motor testing, computer repair, and drive power-up testing. Our shop runs Huntron DH2, Schlumberger 635, PinPoint II and IIR diagnostic systems, x-ray machine, top-of-the-line Hakko soldering and desoldering stations, quality bench test equipment at every station, and multiple 3D printers for custom fixtures.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of hands-on bench experience with component-level repair of industrial electronics
- Proven ability to repair across all major categories — drives, PLCs, power supplies, logic boards, industrial computers — not just one specialty
- Strong troubleshooting instincts: you find the failed component, not just the failed board
- Fluent reading of schematics and datasheets
- A production mindset: you understand shop throughput, deadlines, and how labor and parts costs drive profitability
- Leadership through example — you keep a team productive and focused without micromanaging or distracting them
- Clear written and verbal communication with staff and customers
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs a short distance
Bonus points for prior experience supervising or mentoring technicians in a production repair environment, or writing test procedures and building test fixtures.
PAY & BENEFITS
- $30–$45/hour, placed according to demonstrated skill and experience, with increases through our pay-for-performance program
- Bonus opportunities
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 10+ days PTO with a simple, hassle-free approval process
- 8+ paid holidays
