Job Summary
The Mental Health Professional provides direct mental health support, therapeutic interventions, and structured care for youth with behavioral and mental health needs. This position collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to promote the safety, stability, and overall well-being of youth in a structured residential mental health setting.
Essential Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to:
- Provide direct mental health support and care to youth with behavioral health and mental health needs.
- Implement individualized therapeutic interventions and treatment strategies as directed by the clinical team.
- Assist with crisis intervention and utilize appropriate de-escalation and behavioral management techniques.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate group therapy and therapeutic activities within the scope of education, training, and licensure/registration.
- Support youth with activities of daily living and participation in therapeutic, recreational, and rehabilitative programming.
- Observe, monitor, and document youth behaviors, interactions, responses to interventions, and progress.
- Complete accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate progress notes and other required documentation.
- Collaborate with clinicians, healthcare professionals, direct-care staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive services.
- Maintain professional boundaries and promote a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
- Provide culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate support to youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Comply with applicable organizational policies, regulatory requirements, confidentiality standards, and documentation procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
Including, but not limited to:
- Experience providing direct support or services to youth with mental health or behavioral health needs.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavioral management strategies.
- Familiarity with therapeutic interventions and group therapy practices.
- Understanding of residential, community-based, or other structured mental health care environments.
- Knowledge of adolescent development, counseling principles, and supportive interventions.
- Ability to provide culturally competent and trauma-informed care.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 coding and documentation requirements, as applicable to assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Licensure and Registration Requirements
Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP)
Candidates must meet the applicable California licensing requirements and hold a current, active license in one of the following disciplines:
- Psychologist
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
Candidates must:
- Possess a graduate degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another related field, as applicable to the license.
- Possess a valid and active California license issued by the applicable licensing board or governing authority.
- Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, and professional credentials in good standing.
Waivered/Registered Mental Health Professional
Candidates who are not yet independently licensed may qualify if they are appropriately registered or otherwise authorized to practice under applicable California requirements as one of the following:
- Registered Psychologist, as applicable
- Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)
- Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
- Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)
Candidates must:
- Possess a graduate degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another related field, as applicable to the discipline.
- Maintain current registration and comply with all applicable supervision and practice requirements.
- Work within the scope of their education, training, registration, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings and background checks.
- Must be able to work in a structured residential mental health environment.
- Must be able to respond appropriately to behavioral and mental health crises.
- Must maintain required professional credentials throughout employment.
- Must comply with all applicable federal, state, county, licensing, and organizational requirements.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Graduate degree required for positions requiring licensure or registration as identified above.
