The York School Department is seeking an experienced, dynamic teacher leader to serve as a Literacy Specialist at York High School. The Literacy Specialist will play a critical role in our multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) by providing direct, data-driven student interventions and leading school-wide staff support for literacy.The ideal candidate will be a content expert capable of delivering specialized, high-school-level literacy curriculum to Tier III students, while also collaborating with classroom teachers to embed evidence-based literacy strategies across all content areas. This leader will work closely with administration and departments to collect, analyze, and interpret diagnostic data to drive targeted instructional decision-making, building-wide.ResponsibilitiesDirect Student Intervention: Teach targeted Tier III literacy interventions utilizing specialized, age-appropriate curriculum tailored explicitly for high school students to aggressively repair foundational skill deficits.- Data Management & Analysis: Lead the collection, analysis, and interpretation of school-wide literacy diagnostic data (including i-Ready) to pinpoint student gaps and monitor progress.- School-Wide Staff Leadership: Partner with certified English teachers and other content-area educators to share resources, demonstrate effective secondary literacy approaches, and model evidence-based instructional strategies.- Data-Driven Collaboration: Participate actively in content area, department, and student assistance team meetings to facilitate the ""triangulation"" of data (diagnostics, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations).- MTSS Alignment: Collaborate with building administrators and department chairs to set goals for improved Tier I classroom differentiation, Tier II/III interventions, and MTSS benchmark monitoring.- Measurable Student Outcomes: Deliver clear, measurable results in shrinking the school's Tier 3 literacy population and expanding Tier 1 student proficiency.- Strategic Support: Assist school leadership in implementing a long-term instructional vision, building a positive school-wide data culture, and ensuring literacy goals align with district initiatives.- Professional Learning: Stay current with secondary literacy research and State initiatives, attending and facilitating job-embedded professional development for staff.
