Opperman & Son, Inc. is a Sonoma County icon in the heavy duty truck sales, parts, and service industry. Our facility is located on 8 acres in the midst of Healdsburg's wine country.
We are a full service center for the trucking industry offering new and used parts, body shop, repair shop, welding shop as well as equipment sales. We have an excellent opportunity for Mid Level to Journey Level Diesel Mechanics to add to our team of experienced mechanics. This position reports directly to Lenny Pool our Repair Shop Manager.
The essential function of this position is to diagnose and repair heavy duty trucks, trailers and cargo tankers of various makes and models.
Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs trouble shooting and repairs on cooling systems, electronic systems, air systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, steering components, brakes, etc. Must have a thorough knowledge of diesel diagnostics, repair, and maintenance . Will be expected to document all time and repairs performed. Must be able to take direction as well as collaborate on repairs while maintaining a positive work behavior.
The following duties are required for the heavy duty diesel mechanic in the repair shop:
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, assemble, rebuild, and service heavy duty trucks and trailers
- Repairs include but are not limited to cooling, air, brake, hydraulic, lights, engine, transmissions, clutches, steering, etc.
- Perform general overhaul work on equipment and vehicles
- Perform computer diagnostics and repairs
- Accurately document repair orders and repair or time keeping
- Determine equipment repair needs
- Estimate time to complete repairs
- Recommend changes to improve process and procedures
- Communicate status of repair, maintenance, or fabrication work
- Keep work area clean
- Perform all aspects of position adhering to safety policy and standards
In addition, the duties listed below are required for positions in the mechanic welding shop:
- Weld, cut, repair, lay out, fabricate, and install specialized equipment
- Including but not limited to hook lifts, trash bins, and dump boxes
- Perform welding repairs on heavy duty trucks and trailers

Pay: $34.00 - $40.00 per hour
