Overview
SEMA Construction has an immediate opening for a Roadway Construction Survey Party Chief to lead our surveying team on roadway projects. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee field surveying operations, ensure precise data collection, and support the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects. As a key team leader, you will manage survey crews, operate advanced surveying equipment, and collaborate closely with project managers to meet project specifications and deadlines.
Duties
- Lead and supervise 1–2-person survey crew in active roadway construction zones
- Perform layout, staking, and grade verification for highways, bridges, and site infrastructure
- Operate robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, and data collectors (Trimble)
- Interpret plans, profiles, and cross-sections; calculate quanitites and establish control
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve field conflicts
- Maintain survey records, field notes, and as-built documentation
- Enforce safety protocols in live traffic and heavy equipment environments
Requirements
- 5+ years of survey experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or chief role
- Proficiency with total stations, GPS, and construction staking methods
- Strong math skills and working knowledge of coordinate geometry and traverse computations
- Experience with DOT specifications and roadway construction workflows preferred
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel to project sites
