We are currently seeking a Tree Technician to join our O’Fallon, MO team. This position is ideal for someone with hands-on tree care experience who is ready to perform skilled field work, support safe and efficient job site operations, and continue developing toward more advanced technical or leadership roles.
Job Summary
The Tree Technician performs skilled tree care work as part of a professional tree crew. This position assists with pruning, removals, rigging, equipment operation, job site setup, debris handling, customer property protection, and general tree care operations. The Tree Care Specialist works under the direction of a Crew Leader or field supervisor and is expected to contribute to safe, productive, and high-quality completion of assigned work.
What You’ll Do
As a Tree Technician, you will:
- Perform tree pruning, removals, cleanup, and related tree care duties according to company standards.
- Assist climbers, operators, and crew leaders with rigging, rope handling, equipment staging, and work zone setup.
- Operate chainsaws, pole saws, chippers, hand tools, and other tree care equipment safely and properly.
- Support job site safety by maintaining awareness of hazards, traffic, pedestrians, overhead lines, equipment movement, falling limbs, and changing site conditions.
- Load, haul, stack, drag, chip, and dispose of brush, limbs, logs, and debris.
- Protect customer property, landscaping, turf, structures, driveways, fences, and surrounding areas during work.
- Assist with equipment inspections, basic maintenance, fueling, cleaning, and proper storage.
- Communicate professionally with crew members, supervisors, customers, and other Hansen’s team members.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, ANSI standards, and job-specific work instructions.
- Participate in ongoing training through Hansen University and other company-approved development programs.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Prior experience in tree care, landscaping, forestry, construction, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, or a related outdoor labor field.
- Working knowledge of chainsaws, chippers, ropes, rigging support, hand tools, and field safety practices.
- A strong commitment to safety, teamwork, reliability, and quality workmanship.
- Ability to follow direction, communicate clearly, and work effectively as part of a crew.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Interest in growing within the tree care profession.
Preferred Qualifications (Preferred, but not required):
- One or more years of tree care or related field experience.
- Experience operating chippers, chainsaws, skid steers, loaders, or other field equipment.
- Basic understanding of proper pruning practices and tree removal operations.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- ISA, TCIA, EHAP, or other tree care industry training.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License, or willingness to obtain one.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active field position. Candidates must be able to:
- Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, twist, climb, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull throughout the workday.
- Lift and carry heavy limbs, logs, tools, fuel containers, equipment, and job materials.
- Safely operate or work near chainsaws, chippers, ropes, vehicles, trailers, loaders, and other equipment.
- Work around dust, noise, sawdust, insects, uneven terrain, traffic, and other field hazards.
- Follow safety instructions and wear required personal protective equipment.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round position based out of O’Fallon, Missouri. Work schedules may vary depending on weather, job demands, customer needs, and seasonal workload. Overtime may be required during peak periods or storm response operations.
