Join a team that plays a critical role in protecting public health and maintaining Wichita's water quality standards. The Field Worker 2 - Laboratory Technician supports the City's water production and pumping operations through the collection, testing, analysis, and documentation of water samples used to monitor treatment processes and regulatory compliance. This position combines fieldwork and laboratory operations, requiring precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to data accuracy. Employees perform routine chemical, biological, and microbiological testing, calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments, collect samples from water production and distribution facilities, and maintain accurate records that support operational decisions. The work directly contributes to the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water for the Wichita community. Work is performed under the direction of a technical supervisor and is reviewed through observation, quality control measures, and evaluation of completed laboratory reports and test results.
Workdays and Hours - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This is a limited full-time position.

Required Experience and Training

Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university that includes at least six (6) semester credit hours in Chemistry, Microbiology, or Bacteriology, OR One (1) year of experience performing laboratory analyses, collecting samples, maintaining laboratory records, and calibrating laboratory equipment.

A valid Driver’s license.

Preferred Experience and Training

Associate degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Water Quality Technology, or Laboratory Science.

Two (2) years of laboratory experience performing chemical, biological, microbiological, or water quality testing.
Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
