Position Summary
The Dredge Technician is a skilled, hands-on field technician responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting specialized dredging equipment and support vessels. This role supports dredging operations in a wide range of water conditions and environments, often requiring extended periods away from home. Successful candidates will be mechanically inclined, adaptable to challenging marine conditions, and committed to safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Field Support

Operate dredging equipment and support vessels (e.g., push boats, hydraulic units, centrifugal pumps) in diverse water environments and project locations.

Assist in positioning and operating dredging machinery, including controlling pumps, winches, and other mechanical systems.

Support senior technicians in adjusting equipment settings based on site conditions and project requirements.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventive repairs on marine equipment to maximize uptime and safety.

Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic issues and coordinate corrective action with maintenance or senior support personnel.

Maintain detailed logs of equipment use, maintenance tasks, and any operational incidents.
Advanced Operations (Training Progression)

Upon completion of training and demonstrated capability, operate GPS tracking systems and field-report software (laptops/tablets) to input daily logs, dredge positioning, and ticketing information.

Assist with crane operations, rigging, and movement of heavy components under supervision.
Travel & Work Environment

Accept extended travel schedules and extended stays away from home (30+ days typical).

Perform work in varied weather conditions and in proximity to water, marine vessels, and heavy equipment.
Safety & Compliance

Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company procedures both on site and aboard dredging units.

Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and site-specific requirements as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Certifications

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Two-year post-secondary education in marine technology or related trade (a plus)

Valid U.S. Driver’s License
Licenses / Cards

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) — required

Boat handling, crane, or other relevant certifications (preferred)
Skills & Experience

Strong mechanical aptitude, including basic understanding of hydraulics and heavy marine equipment

Prior experience with equipment maintenance or operation (hydraulic units, pumps, engines)

Comfortable working around large machinery and operating in physically demanding marine environments

Familiar with marine tools, hand tools, and diagnostic processes

Proficiency with GPS systems and electronic data logging (with training)

Background in pipeline flushing, coiled tubing, fracking, or well services is valuable, but not general truck driving or basic rigging alone
Physical & Work Requirements

Ability to swim and work safely around open water

Capable of working long hours, nights, and holidays if the project schedule requires

Comfortable with extended travel and remote work sites

Must abide by all safety and security policies, including TWIC-controlled access areas
Preferred Experience

Prior experience operating large dredge units or marine vessels

Experience with marine navigation systems (GPS, sonar) and heavy-equipment operation protocols
