Scope of Job
To perform clerical duties for a department. Responsible for the performance of clerical, typing and data entry duties.
Description of Duties
- To provide support to the American Sign Language Program.
- Performs clerical duties requiring some discretion and/or independent judgment.
- Maintains office supply inventory.
- Performs data entry, deletion and updates
- Engages in various records keeping, posting, filing and sorting of departmental records.
- Prepares departmental reports.
- Determines work priority.
- Opens mail, sorts and routes correspondence or forms.
- Issues equipment, records, receipts or supplies.
- Assists with and collects data and prepares material for periodic reports, surveys or publications.
- Replaces senior clerical personnel on vacation or temporary leave.
- Acts a receptionist answering routine questions and referring more complex inquiries to appropriate administrators.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
Direct supervision on complex and unusual assignments.
Supervision Given
May supervise assigned support staff including student employees and temporary direct wage employees.
Required Education
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Education
Associates degree.
Licenses/Certifications
None.
Required Experience
One (1) year of clerical experience in an office setting.
Preferred Experience
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
Equipment
Knowledge of use of personal computer, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The role includes availability for work beyond regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
