HR Generalist (Multi-State Experience Required)

Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced HR Generalist to support a multi-state workforce. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day HR operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting employees and leadership across multiple locations within the US. The ideal candidate has previous hands-on employment law experience with non-exempt retail staff located in various states including California and New York and can successfully operate independently in a complex environment. This position reports to the Global VP, HR located in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full employee lifecycle (onboarding, changes, offboarding)
- Serve as a primary contact and strategic thinking partner for employee relations and HR inquiries
- Lead, coach and supervise the Payroll Supervisor (exempt)
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Support multi-state HR operations: CA, TX, IL, NJ, NY, MA, GA, & FL
- Demonstrate flexible accessibility while working within various operational time zones
- Oversee Recruiting Request approval process and onboarding spreadsheet
- Create job descriptions and job postings. Administrator for Indeed job posting process.
- Complete 401(k) decommission and transfer process (October 2026)
- Primary Administer for HRIS systems, including maintaining accurate employee records
- Coordinate benefits administration, including annual renewal process, with our benefits broker, PEO and executive leadership
- Oversee leave management (FMLA, ADA, state-specific leaves) with our PEO and leaders
- Partner with managers on performance management and employee development
- Assist in updating and implementing HR policies and procedures (and Handbook)
- Support audits, reporting, and documentation requirements
- Manage HR compliance processes such as: Involuntary Termination Process, Adverse Action, ADA, Workers' Compensation, OSHA regulations/reporting, ACA Tracking and Year End activities
- Utilize HR Systems: Workbright, AccuSourceHR, CoAdvantage, Travel Perk, etc.
- Laise with a global team for best practices and processes and systems improvements
- Organize corporate team events
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, with flexibility to support early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays based on business needs
- Remote work arrangement with expectation of availability across multiple time zones
Qualifications & Requirements
- 3–6+ years of hands-on HR Generalist or related experience
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills with the ability to apply sound business judgement and empathy to drive effective solutions
- Experience supporting non-exempt & exempt employees across multiple states
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, especially in California and New York
- Experience with HRIS systems (PEO experience helpful)
- Comfortable handling confidential information with discretion
- Approachable and adaptable disposition
- Ability to flex schedule to accommodate multiple time zones
- Demonstrated ability to perform successfully in a remote and complex environment (self-initiating)
- Comfortable leading and participating in weekly (if not daily) video meetings
- Willingness to occasionally pick up company mail and electronically distribute from our Orlando office
- Willingness to occasionally meet team members in-person at the office, warehouse or for team events
- Availability to travel for site visits as required
- Authorized to work in the US
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multi-state locations
- Scaling, high-growth environment experience
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification
- Central Florida candidates due to home office located in Orlando
