Responsibilities
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.
- Monitor patient health by observing vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; document findings accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration following proper protocols and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, including memory care techniques and behavioral management strategies.
- Perform catheter care, wound dressing changes, and assist with hospice or palliative care needs as required.
- Operate medical equipment such as Hoyer lifts and assist with transfers safely to prevent injury.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by assisting with light housekeeping tasks like laundry, cleaning, meal preparation, and ensuring infection control standards are met.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in medical records and communicate effectively with healthcare teams using EMR systems.
- Support patients’ emotional well-being through compassionate caregiving while respecting their dignity and preferences.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols including CPR certification requirements and infection control procedures to ensure the highest level of patient safety.
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals who have developmental disabilities or require dementia/memory care support.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures related to long-term care, hospice, or home health services.
- Experience operating medical equipment such as Hoyer lifts or performing catheter care is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation of patient records and medical documentation practices.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Strong caregiving skills complemented by excellent communication abilities; flexibility to work live-in shifts or part-time schedules preferred.
