Duties
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by taking detailed medical histories and performing preliminary assessments such as measuring vital signs and conducting intake procedures
- Assist ophthalmologists during exams by operating medical equipment including A-scan biometers, tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement, and other ophthalmic instruments
- Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive patient information and medical records
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems accurately, including documentation of exam results, diagnoses, and treatment plans
- Conduct optical testing procedures such as visual acuity assessments, refraction tests, and physiology-based evaluations to support diagnosis and treatment planning
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and assisting with patient intake processes
- Perform administrative tasks related to medical coding and billing to facilitate efficient clinic operations
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology practices, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care
- Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as A-scan devices, tonometers, and other clinical tools
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately across diverse patient populations including pediatrics
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems) like Epic or similar platforms for accurate data entry and retrieval
- Ability to maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines and clinical confidentiality policies at all times
- Experience in medical office settings with knowledge of medical billing, coding, retail sales principles, and front desk responsibilities is a plus
- Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities with attention to detail
